May I check out books over the winter and summer breaks?
Yes. But certain conditions and restrictions apply that may make it simpler to return a book before going on break. Read on ....
- Ford Library books may only be renewed twice. If you will be away from Duke for longer than the time allotted by the first loan plus 2 renewals (84 days), then you should return the book(s) before leaving campus.
- Be aware that the borrowed item may be recalled by another patron after your guaranteed loan period of 2 weeks/10 business days. After that time, they can be requested (recalled) by another patron. A request moves the due date earlier and no additional renewals are permitted for the recalled book. The recalled book must be returned to the library by the new (earlier) date to avoid recall fines of $3 per day.
