What is SSO (single sign-on) access?

2 views   Last updated on Oct 31, 2025    Tech Help - Databases

Duke SSO (single sign-on) is an authentication and online access system that allows a user to access multiple web-based resources (databases, e-journals, e-books, etc.) without needing to create separate accounts (usernames & passwords) for each resource.  Users only need to log in once using their Duke Net ID and password to an SSO-enabled resource and that login should persist for all other SSO-enabled sites visited during a browser session.

How it works:  1) a user follows an SSO connection link to a resource, and is presented with the Duke Net ID login page. 2) After entering their Duke Net ID & password, the user is redirected to the resource website without any need to login at the site itself!
